The Singapore Botanic Garden's are a UNESCO Heritage Site that I have visited before. In October 2019 on my way to Korea I stopped in for a few hours of exploring and birding. As I wandered down from the bus along the roadway down to Symphony Lake, I spied a small bird in the hedge. I stood back and waited for it to show itself briefly and got some photos. It was identified as a female Black-naped Monarch which caused quite a fuss. This bird had not been seen on the Singaporean mainland for thirty years. My first twitch had many birders and photographers there the next day searching for it with success.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) is a well-manicured site with many visitors. As a result the birds are generally unafraid of humans and great photographs can taken here if one is patient and has the time.

Arriving from Thailand this afternoon we headed to the gardens to commence our Singaporean leg of our birding trip. We spent the remainder of the afternoon around the Eco lake giving the new members of the tour a chance to get to grips with some of the more common species. we were treated to a Yellow Bittern feeding, Asian Water monitors and Plantain Squirrels all feeding as well as many species of bird. A great start to the week.
